12th February, Charles Darwin’s Day

Travel Lovers,

On February 12 we celebrate Charles Darwin’s day. For those who do not know, Charles Darwin was a biologist, naturalist and author who lived between 1809 and 1882. He is most known for the book he wrote, explaining species evolution, named “The Origin of Species”.

This day and this scientist are very important for My Greenway Tours because of one specific specie that he documented in his book and that you can see in one of our 4x4 experience tours: the Drosophyllum lusitanicum.

A rare carnivorous plant found in Valongo is documented in the famous book and was sent to Darwin by a “portuense” man (name given to people who are born in Porto), named William Tait. In our tour experience you have the chance to pass by the place where the plant is.

It is fascinating for us – nature lovers -  everything about this story and it is very exciting being able to show others where our small country connects with such important scientific discoveries.
