Top 5 Gardens in Porto

This week we are going to explore the 5 best gardens and parks in Porto. No need to say that we believe any quality tourist should take time to visit and admire these beautiful places to relax and connect with Mother Nature.

Starting of strong, our first stop is close to the beach and the only park in Europe facing the sea. “Parque da Cidade – Porto”, with 83 hectares and 10 km worth of trails, is the perfect spot for a picnic date or to lay down and enjoy the sunset. You can also grab pieces of bread and feed the ducks that usually hang out next to the lake, or the chickens running around the park. Overall, pack some food because you will want to spend a lot of time there.

The second spot worth visiting is located a little closed to the historical part of Porto and to all the excitement surrounding the big city. The “Jardins do Palácio de Cristal”, is a group of different gardens that, together, make approximately 10 hectares of land. Inaugurated in 1860, you do not want to miss the opportunity to visit this beautiful piece of nature while resting from long walks around the city. If you hear music playing in the background, do not worry, it’s probably one of the many concerts and shows that “Super Bock Arena”, also located in the garden’s space, has to offer.

Next on our list is “Parque de São Roque”, it is located close to Dragão stadium and, with 4 hectares, it is another place to visit if you are looking for a relaxed time walking around trees and flowers. The old feeling around the construction gives this park the charm of making you feel like you are in the 18’s century, in your own house, having a chilled moment in the garden. Be careful not to get lost in the maze inside the park, we want you to see the rest of it.

If you are one of the lucky people who has been in our bike tours, who have probably passed by “Parque da Pasteleira”. Located close to Fluvial Sports Club swimming pool, with 8 hectares, this park connects the sidewalk from the Douro river to D Luís’s bridge. It is a great location for an outdoors party and healthy walk, you should definitely visit this park when trying to find the best place for an afternoon nap.

Last but not the least we have “Parque de Nova Sintra”. With great history and 3 hectares, this is another place to remind you of the great gardens that houses used to have. In fact, all fountains, public fountains and drinking fountains ever to be there, are now in exhibit. This location is now a part of SMAS (water and electrical services off Porto’s city council) but it did not lose it’s charm. If you want a different river view you can find it hidden inside the garden. This is the most beautiful garden in the city and probably the least known one.
